    • Identifies a major or minor triad and returns its root step: exactly a root, a third and a perfect fifth, in any inversion or doubling. Anything else is null (G7, Cmaj7, Cadd9, Cdim, Csus4), so P, L and R return null for it too.

      Parameters

      Returns { isMajor: boolean; rootStep: number } | null

      • { isMajor: boolean; rootStep: number }
        • isMajor: boolean

          Major (true) or minor (false).

        • rootStep: number

          Root of the triad, in steps from A4.

      • null
    • Leading-tone Exchange (L) Major: Root moves down a half-step (C Major -> E Minor) Minor: Fifth moves up a half-step (A Minor -> F Major)

      Parameters

      Returns Chord | null

    • Relative Transformation (R) Major: Fifth moves up a whole-step (C Major -> A Minor) Minor: Root moves down a whole-step (A Minor -> C Major)

      Parameters

      Returns Chord | null
